Aya Takashima was born in Osaka, Japan, in 1969. After graduating from the Osaka University of Arts in Osaka, Japan, and working in the field of photography in Tokyo, she decided to go back to school, this time in the U.S. She received her M.F.A. from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2001. Her work has been exhibited in Boston, New York, Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, Osaka and Hitachi, Japan, and Korea. Aya currently lives and teaches photography in Northern Virginia.
